Legal Advice on Defending Yourself Against Others

By Emanuele Allenti At one time, it was not illegal to defend yourself if someone attacked you on the streets. However, in
a few states, if you retaliate when assaulted, both parties are arrested, even though you were merely
defending yourself against the attacker. This is sounds like insanity, but the laws has determined that word against word is the issue; thus,
the crime should be taken to court to determine what caused the incident, why the incident occurred,
and who is responsible for the crime committed. If there is a third party involved in the act--rather if
a third person intervenes in an attempt to protect the victim--it may fall under the alter ego rule or
rather the third person is permitted to defend the victim on particular grounds. Under the Texas Penal Codes, for example, the law states that under a defending act of a third party,
that the person is legally excused if this persons utilizes force against another to... [protect the third
party.] This person cannot use this action if he feels that the third party is in no danger; however, if
the party feels that the victim is in a life threatening situation, or else brutality is involved, then this
person must use thoughtful consideration in taking action to protect the third party. Other states may only permit the party to restrain the culprit until the police arrive. Yet, few states
will consider this act a Citizens Arrest, where the party holds the culprit temporarily in his/her
custody until the police arrive at the scene of the crime. For more information on self-defense, check
your local state laws. This is crucial because your stay may have completely different laws than the
law cited above from the state of Texasand if you have to defend yourself in court, you will want to
know what those laws are and if they work in your favor or against you. Emanuele Allenti offers valuable tips and help about professional legal advice and personal legal advice. Enter now! Know the Best Way to Cure Bad Breath Problem

By Dr John Anne Bad breath medically known as halitosis is an extremely embarrassing problem that is actually present in most people over the world today. A person suffering from bad breath can often become a subject of ridicule. Hence it is very important to get rid of this problem. There are several products in the market ranging from toothpastes to mouth fresheners, but they can only provide temporary relief to the problem. Ayurveda has the potential to solve the problem from its roots. The mouth is the place of the kapha dosha. Hence an imbalance in the kapha dosha of the person manifests itself in the form of bad breath. In order to treat the problem of bad odor forever, a person will need to keep his/her kapha in the proper balance. In most instances, oral hygiene is spoken along with dental hygiene. Hence most treatments that are beneficial for the teeth are also beneficial for keeping mouth odors at bay. In an indirect way, even the pitta dosha is responsible. When the agni (digestive fire) of the pitta dosha is vitiated, then the person would have an improper digestion. This would lead to bad breath emanating from the mouth. When a person has bad breath, what is actually happening is that bacteria are living in the mouth, which are decomposing the residues of the food and releasing sulfur. The bad breath is a result of this liberation of sulfur. The regions in which the bacteria live could be in the interspaces between the teeth, in the cavities of the teeth or on the tongue. In extreme cases, there could be pus formation in the gums (scurvy like conditions due to deficiency of vitamin C). This could cause severe offensive odor and the person could well become a social outcast. Let us check out the various methods available in Ayurveda to treat the problem of bad odor. (1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Bad Breath Babul (Acacia arabica) The babul is actually useful for the treatment of teeth cavities. Strong teeth means less cavities; and this will mean no bad breath. Simply chewing on the fresh bark of the babul tree will make the teeth stronger and arrest any bad breath that is emanating from them. Banyan (Ficus bengalensis) If the aerial roots of the banyan are used to rub on the teeth (much as a toothbrush does), then the bacteria on the teeth would be killed. This would reduce the bad breath to a great extent. Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) Again, clove is actually used for dental treatment. Clove is perhaps the most commonly used herb in dental treatments; it is one of the chief ingredients of many toothpastes. But due to its pungent taste, it can also cure the kapha vitiation which will eventually fight the bad breath. Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) Chewing a few leaves of the holy basil will treat all kinds of mouth infections. Thus bad breath will become a thing of the past. Pepper (Piper nigrum) Pepper is considered to be a very excellent agent in treating foul breath. A poultice of pepper is made with rock salt and rubbed on the teeth. When this is done on a daily basis, almost all kinds of oral and dental problems will be brought under control. Sandalwood (Santalum album) Sandalwood is a very effective herb in the vitiation of the pitta dosha that can bring about improvement of the gum health. (2) Dietary Treatments for Bad Breath The first important thing with halitosis is to check is whether the digestion is going on properly or not. Reduce the consumption of all foods that are difficult to digest. Include more fruits and green leafy vegetables in the diet as they can aid digestion. Flavor your food with spices such as cardamom and clove. These will help to combat the bacteria developed in the oral cavity. Drink lots of water and citrus fruit juices during the day. Gargle your mouth after everything you eat. Vigorous gargling is required to remove the food particles accumulated in the interspaces of the teeth or their cavities. If gargling is not enough, brush and floss. Do not leave residues of chocolates and sugary foods in the mouth. Wash the mouth immediately after eating such things. (3) Ayurvedic Treatments for Bad Breath Tablets of Khadiradi, Eladi and Lavangadi can be chewed about three to four times a day. This refreshes the mouth repeatedly and also has an astringent effect on the bacteria in the mouth. (4) Home Medications The teeth and gums must be massaged with a mixture of honey and fine charcoal powder once a day. Keep the peel of a single pomegranate in the shade and let it dry completely. Do not keep it in direct sunlight or it will dry out the vitamins. Grind the dried peel to a fine powder. Put three grams of the powder in a glass of water and boil it. Gargle with this water. Repeat this for about a month. Dried coriander when chewed reduces the foul odor from the mouth. This is a good method to reduce the bad breath due to garlic and onion. Tips On How To Choose A Cell Phone

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Steadman_Issenburg]Steadman Issenburg Advances are constantly being made in the field of cell phone technology, which means that there are always newer cell phone models coming out on the market with more and more advanced features. So here are some tips on how to choose the cell phone that will best fit your needs. 1. The first thing to do is to choose the cell phone provider first, then get the cell phone. After all, the cell phone will only be as good as the network it is connected to. In order to make the best decision about which cell phone provider will work best in your area, you can conduct your own informal survey of family and friends to find out what experiences they are having with various cell phone providers. Then choose the one that seems to have the best local record. 2. Now that you have your cell phone provider in mind, it's a good idea to actually visit their store and physically inspect all of the phones that they have available. This is important because just seeing a picture of a cell phone will not tell you much about how it actually works. But if you have a chance to actually hold each cell phone in your hand and see how easy it is to use, you can quickly narrow down your choices to those that will seem to work best for you and the way you use your cell phone. 3. One of the most important features of the cell phone is the display, and so you need to make sure that any cell phone you buy has a display that is easily readable in both dimly lit and bright lighting conditions. Again, this is usually best determined by physically examining it in the cell phone store. 4. You'll find that there is a wide range and diversity of features from one cell phone to another, so look for the features that are most important to you and will be most often used, such as a speakerphone for hands-free use. 5. In order to save money and get the best cell phone deal, be sure to ask about any special promotions or offers that are being run by the cell phone companies at this time. Sometimes you won't know about these specials if you don't specifically ask for them, but they can often save you lots of money when you buy your cell phone. Quite often, cell phone providers will run specials online that may not be available off line, so be sure that you look for internet specials whenever you shop too. 6. Be sure that you understand all return policies regarding any phone that you are considering just in case you may need to return it, as some consumers have been hit with hefty restocking and cancellation fees when they decided to return their phone. So just be sure that you are fully aware of the cell phone provider's return policy on that particular phone before you buy it. If you use these tips and suggestions when shopping for a cell phone, you should be able to find the one that will fit you best and save money at the same time. Important Information If You Are Considering A Tummy Tuck To Lose Weight

By Tim Gorman With so many people wanting to look good and the diet craze all around us many consumers are opting for a more extreme method of achieving a toned down and slimmer looking body through the surgical procedure commonly known as a tummy tuck. This form of major surgery is actually known as Abdominoplasty and its basic function is to remove any excess skin and fat from the abdomen region while at the same time tightening abdominal wall and associated muscles. So why are so many people signing up for an extreme body makeover using a tummy tuck procedure? The truth is a tummy tuck can fix the common condition of sagging or protruding abdominal muscles. Typically, you see this procedure performed on a person that has lost a tremendous amount of weight and is left with a large amount of excess and loose fat floating around the abdominal region. Unfortunately, many people that consider a tummy tuck operation for beauty or cosmetic reasons forget or dont worry about the fact that this operation does leave a rather large scar, the size of which is dependant upon the operating skill of the doctor or surgeon performing the procedure. As with any surgery there are associated risks involved and since this is a major surgery requiring the use of anaesthesia, only an individual that is in good health and suffering from excess fat and loose skin around their stomach and abdomen should consider undergoing the operation. Additionally, anyone preparing to receive a tummy tuck should perform the necessary research needed in order to find a competent doctor or surgeon that is experienced enough to have developed an excellent reputation for smoothly performing a tummy tuck procedure. If you know someone that has received a tummy tuck then by all means consult with them to receive a verbal recommendation for a particular doctor or hospital in order to ensure that you receive the best possible treatment for this major operation. Finally, dont forget that these types of cosmetic operations do cost a decent amount of money and in most cases many insurance companies wont bear the brunt of the cost based on the fact that it is a cosmetic surgery. Try and obtain a payment plan and always make sure all costs associated with the procedure (to include hidden costs) are known upfront so that there are no hidden surprises after the surgery is performed. The Mind of Christ. Is it the Mind of God

By Anthony Smith There are many things in Scripture that bring about controversy and division, this is one of those subjects. No man knows all about scripture, we all have an interpretation, a vision, and a dream, we must share all we do know to invoke a thought process in all. This way we get others to read and become involved the interpretation process. Ars. There is much controversy over weather Christ and God have the same mind. This is not the correct question thou. The question of the Holy trinity is all too clear, for God, Christ and the Holy Spirit are one. The real question is one that many are missing. Did Jesus of Nazareth have the mind of God, as the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Son of David, or was Jesus limited in certain knowledge that the Father only retained? That is, I believe, the correct question. In this message I will attempt to answer that question. We believe in Jesus for two reasons, 1. The works that He preformed as the Son of Man and 2. The works that were preformed at the time of Resurrection. Jesus even stated this in his words to the Jews; John 10:37-38 ; If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
We see Jesus time after time declaring that He and His Father were separate but still one. This is where we arrive at the Holy Trinity. But what we are going to look at is the separation of Jesus from the Father. Many called Jesus the Son of David, The Son of Man and The Son of God. Who then is He the Son of? Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root=(The first ancestor. In Scripture, to be rooted and grounded in Christ, is to be firmly united to him by faith and love, and well established in the belief of his character and doctrines. Eph 3.)(Webster.)and the offspring=(Propagation; generation.) of David, and the bright and morning star. The Lion of the tribe of Juda and the Root of David Mat 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Rom 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
Rom 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: the seed of David according to the flesh; Seed=Progeny; offspring; children; descendants; as the seed of Abraham; the seed of David. In this sense, the word is applied to one person, or to any number collectively, and admits of the plural form; but rarely used in the plural. Race; generation; birth.(Webster.) The Bible is clear about the powers that Jesus had, He received them from God the Father, for Jesus, you must remember was manifested in the Flesh and not in the Spirit. This was the only limitation that Jesus had, for He knew all about all, but when it came to Him having total recollection or transference of the Fathers Mind, Jesus did not know all, so the Mind of Jesus, The Son of Man, was separated from the Mind of God in a limited manner. We also have knowledge in limited manners. To have the mind of God and Christ we must know all that our Father knows, to this day we are still void of some knowledge, therefore we have the Mind of Jesus, knowing what He knew and not the Mind of God knowing all. For Jesus and Christ are separated by circumstances, Jesus being in the Flesh and Christ being in the Spirit. Jesus being made a little lower than the Angles and Christ being restored to His former Glory. The word,Christ is not a name but a title of authority. Think on this for a moment. Sense God cannot be tempted by any man, God being manifested in the flesh was able to be tempted as per; Mat 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. In 1st.Co 10:9; we see Christ(God,Holy Ghost.)being tempted by some of the Jews and being destroyed.) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.Mat 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. You should be able to see the differences in the manifestation of God, Christ and Jesus Son of David. God, Christ will not be tempted by man, the penalty for such actions is destruction, but the temptation of Jesus brought no such reaction. Mat 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? There are many things in Scripture that we don't know, having the mind of Christ. Here is my first example; Mar 13:32, (Jesus Speaking;) But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. neither the Son. Next is this phrase from Luke 22:22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined:. DETERMINED=Ended; concluded; decided; limited; fixed; settled; resolved; directed. Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Tsk. Heb 2:9 -
Jesus: Heb_8:3, Heb_10:5; Gen_3:15; Isa_7:14, Isa_11:1, Isa_53:2-10; Rom_8:3; Gal_4:4; Phi_2:7-9 Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. What we are actually addressing is a difference in interpretation. I firmly believe in the Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God The Holy Spirit. They are all one, but I also believe that there was a separation from the Father, thou limited, when Jesus was walking in the flesh. ars. Temple of Spirit & Truth Ministries

Procedures in Selecting the Best Home Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Archana_Vasudev]Archana Vasudev A home is made of hearts. Inside the strong compound of bricks and cement, a home narrates a story- the story of past, present and probable future. It is where one finds pleasure, hides sorrow and dreams for the incessantly moving seconds. It is contentment when a home becomes a reality. John Payne said, "Mid pleasures and palaces though we roam, be it ever so humble, there is no place like home." This explains the significance of a home, the place where one finds his real self. A home is something that gives everything. To possess a home of our own there are various processes that has to undergo. It is not that simple. It is an after effect of a long process of planning, execution and proper administration of various factors. Sometimes, you get the best home with nice surroundings and favorable situations. Or otherwise, you might get a beautiful plot to make a home of your choice at affordable rates. The next step would be necessarily to go straight and buy it. But disturbances happen and hurdles come in the way blocking your dreams. The main threat would usually be finance. To tackle the problem effectively and easily, there are so many home loans available. Depending upon the priority and need, one can select the loan to finance your home. A lot of brainstorming and perfect planning is necessary before taking the right decision for choosing the loan for your home. There are different steps that include in the process of buying a loan-

Purpose of buying the loan
Usually loans are provided by banks and Housing Finance Companies. They give loans for various reasons. They are:
Purchase of property
Construction of property
Extension of property
Repairs of property and
Site loans
How much can you afford
Once the purpose of applying for the loan is clear, the next step would be analyzing your ability and present financial status to go for the type of loan you can borrow. It is mere foolishness to go for a loan that gives you exorbitant amount you cannot afford. So it is always advisable to go for an amount you are confident that you can pay back. Basically, the affordability scale can be put in to different points.

How much you can afford to pay back every month?
The evaluated value of the property
Your credit history
How much money you have for down payment
The type of loan you choose
Home loans are of various types. Understanding the benefits and the nature of loans, the selection can be done. You can also consider your expectations regarding the financial conditions, and how long you want to keep your house. Various types of loans are given below. Fixed Rate Mortgages (FRM)
Fixed rate mortgages have higher rates. They usually have terms lasting 15 or 30 years. Throughout those years, the interest rate and principal will never change. There are also mortgages, which shorten the loan by calling for half the monthly payment every two weeks. Fixed rate mortgages can be considered if you plan to stay at home for more than five years. This is because as the interest rate increases, the monthly rate payment on this type of loan decreases. Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARM)
The interest rate for ARM in the beginning is less than the Fixed Rate Mortgages. But here the rates change at specified interval of time. Thus the monthly payment increases or decreases. Even then you can go for higher amount for your loan prices as the monthly payment will be comparatively lower. ARM is a good choice if you are looking for a way to consolidate debt or if you are going for an investment, you need immediate cash from. Thus each ARM has four basic components Initial interest rate is lower than that of most fixed rate mortgages. This is all the more tied to certain economic indicators that dictate in part what the monthly payments will be. Adjustment interval is the time between changes in the monthly interest rate and payment happens. Index, against which the lenders measure the difference between the profit they make in the mortgage and other types of investments. Margin is the additional rate the lender adds to the index to establish the adjusted interest rate on an adjustable interest rate. Seller Assisted Mortgages
Here the seller of the home helps with the financing by underwriting all or part of the loan. This holds a lower interest rate with lower monthly payments. But the previous homeowner may hold the deed of trust and thus if the loan trusts call for certain payment schedules, the buyer may have to seek an altogether new financing. Balloon mortgage
These are short-term mortgages with almost the similar feature as of the Fixed Rate Mortgage. Balloon loans have different types of maturity periods, but most have a term of 5-7 years. Balloon loans can be considered if you prefer to live in an appreciating house and for a short period with less payment. Graduated Payment mortgage
This is an alternative to the Adjustable rate Mortgage. GPM has a fixed note rate and payment schedule. Like the ARM this also gives the customer the ability to avoid the negative amortization and pay the additional principal. The note rate of a GPM is .5% to .75% higher than fixed rate mortgage. GPM is useful in market a market with rapid growth and appreciation. Combination Rate Mortgage
Combination Rate Mortgages is a combination of ARM and FRM. They are also referred to as hybrid loans by the lenders. The interest rate is fixed for the first three years were the monthly payment also remains the same. The interest rate varies in the next years and is also adjustable. The best way to find the mortgage or loan type that suits you is to consider the opinion of a mortgage professional. Applying for a loan
Once you are determined about the type of loan you are going to buy, then the next step would be applying for it with a written loan proposal. Filling up the necessary information, you can apply it in a local branch. Now there are also facilities to apply it online and over the phone. The applied form will be then processed, reviewed and evaluated. Closing stage
Closing your loan happens when you finish the paper works and pay closing costs and procure ownership of the property or home. Here a closing agent will review the settlement sheet with you and loan documents will be signed which include mortgage, deed of trust and note. Once all the formalities are finished, you are given the ownership of the home with dealings and procedures written on a paper. All the closing documents will also be given. The banks, which lend money, will consider certain things before giving you the eligibility to go for a loan. They are divided basically in to 3 different things. Capability
This is the most important criteria in lending a loan to the buyer. The capacity of the loan applicant to repay the amount will be taken in to consideration along with the payment history or credit history of the person. They evaluate the credit history by three different ways- grading, scoring and automated underwriting. Usually other mortgage lenders than the banks consider the credit scoring. Collateral security
The bank necessarily wants to know an alternate way of repayment. Collateral security is the additional form of security you can provide a lender. Both personal and business assets are considered sources of collateral security for the bank. A guarantee is a document some one else signs expressing the willingness to repay the amount if you don't pay. Character
This is completely on the personal impression you make on the lender. The educational background and importance of references you make is also determined. A home is an important place. You can make it a heaven by building dreams in bright colors. You can also make it a hell without prior planning, improper administration and bad financial plan. Every minute detail that deals with the construction or purchase of a house should be taken in to consideration for a hazard free life. Employment Screening Companies

By Josh Riverside Employers these days prefer to play it safe rather than be sorry after a hiring decision. Many resumes contain falsified information and hiring such a person might put the company in jeopardy later on. Employers are hiring pre-employment screening agencies to do look into applicant's backgrounds. Though some companies have an internal department specialized in doing background checks, more and more employers prefer to provide the jobs to companies specialized in such work. These companies follow legal regulations while doing the background checks and are very through and professional in finishing the job on time. It also does not cost the companies a lot if they tend to go into a contract with a company for some specific period of time. These pre-employment screening companies can do some background checks to verify if the candidates application and resume are falsified or not. The screening might also reveal some interesting facts about the candidate such as the driving record, criminal record, and credit history based on how extensive the employer requires the report to be. Pre-employment screening agencies are actually investigative agencies employing people specialized in sleuthing. They also have access to records in most of the government offices and can provide the requisite details in as little as 3 to 5 days. However, if the employer requires the agency to do an extensive search, it might take as much as 15 days to one month to produce the report. In spite of the good service provided by most pre-employment screening agencies, they must be certain to follow certain rules and regulations while conducting the background searches. These agencies also provide nationwide searches if the employee is not local or if the job requires the candidate to be relocated. More and more companies provide these services these days. It is suggested to do some market research before employing the services of one of these companies. Inaccurate reports might sometimes adversely affect the company. Also, the report must cover all the requisite details with precision and detailed accuracy. Employment Screening provides detailed information about employment screening, employment drug screening, and more. Employment Screening is affiliated with Background Checks. The New Sun-Dried Lifestyle

By David Kamp "What Dean & Deluca did was give the food market a clean artistry that made it very now, very tied into the moment when SoHo was being noticed," says Florence Fabricant, the New York Times food-beat scoopmeister, who wrote about the store nearly from its inception. "Jack Ceglic was responsible for a lot of that, the industrial look. And Giorgio and Joel were really fanatic about ferreting out product. It all tied together. And the other important thing they tapped into was the need for prepared foods." Indeed, the time had at last arrived when it was socially and economically acceptable for young professionals -- and even harried moms in the suburbs -- to take home freshly prepared entres, along with salads and sides purchased by the pound. In an earlier era, prepared foods were problematic: they seemed too fancy and expensive (as Jean Vergnes found out during his brief experiment with Stop & Shop in the sixties), and, for women, they seemed a cop-out, a betrayal of their domestic duties. But with more women in the professional workforce and more people amenable to the general idea of "gourmet" eating, especially if it had the imprimatur of a prestigious shop like Dean & DeLuca or E.A.T., prepared foods started to take off -- Rob Kaufelt, who grew up in the supermarket business and now runs Murray's, the beloved New York cheese store, calls the rise of prepared foods "the biggest change in the grocery-store business over the last thirty years." Dean & DeLuca's secret weapon in this regard was Felipe Rojas-Lombardi, who for a time was a partner in the store with the namesake owners and Ceglic. Peruvian by birth, Rojas-Lombardi had come to Dean & DeLuca by way of the James Beard Cooking School, where he'd risen up through the ranks to become the master's right-hand man in the kitchen. Rojas-Lombardi had also worked as New York magazine's in-house chef, their go-to man for testing recipes. This pedigree proved helpful not only in eliciting constant plugs for the store in Beard's syndicated column and in New York but in the fact that Rojas-Lombardi was a skilled, inventive cook: he roasted chickens tandoori-style, grilled salmon on cedar planks, and went out on a limb with such oddball entres as elk steak and his notorious rabbit with forty cloves of garlic. "Felipe did some of the first pasta salads that people had ever seen," says Ceglic. "He did everything with the products we sold, and people cottoned to it." "The idea was that if you didn't know what a sun-dried tomato was, well, here it was, in a pasta salad," said Dean. The third point in New York's prepared-foods triangle, with Dean & DeLuca downtown and E.A.T. serving the Upper East Side, was the Silver Palate, a tiny shop on the Upper West Side, on what was then a drab stretch of Columbus Avenue. The Silver Palate's genesis lay in a mid-seventies catering company called The Other Woman, a single-person operation run by Sheila Lukins, a young mother of two who cooked out of her apartment on Central Park West. As her company's name and slogan ("So discreet, so delicious, and I deliver") suggested, Lukins's clientele was mostly male: professional men who wanted their dinner parties catered but not in an inordinately fussy, Edith Whartonian fashion. Lukins was a self-taught cook, more or less -- she had taken a course at the London Cordon Bleu while she and her husband lived there, but "it was the dilettante course," she says. Her greatest inspiration was not Child and company's Mastering the Art of French Cooking but the more practical, less labor-intensive recipes of Craig Claiborne's New York Times cookbooks and his Sunday pieces for the Times Magazine. Lukins's cooking was eclectic but somehow all of a piece -- aspirational comfort food: moussaka, lasagna, ratatouille, stuffed grape leaves, and the quintessential Lukins dish, Chicken Marbella, the quartered bird baked after a long soak in a Mediterranean-style marinade of oil, vinegar, garlic, prunes, olives, and capers. While running The Other Woman Catering Company, Lukins became acquainted with Julee Rosso, a young professional who worked in the advertising division of Burlington Mills, the textile company. Rosso had attended many events catered by Lukins, and was so impressed that one day, she hit up Lukins with a proposal. "She said, 'So many women are working late now. What if we opened up a shop for them?'" Lukins remembers. The two went into business as the Silver Palate in the summer of 1977, with Lukins as the cook -- carting food over from her apartment several times a day to the then kitchenless store -- and Rosso as the marketer and front-woman. "It was a big deal for two women to go into business together in 1977," says Lukins, who thinks this angle helped the shop get press coverage almost as fawning and widespread as Dean & DeLuca's. Zabar was the odd man out where press was concerned. E.A.T. was flourishing, and it offered an even more extensive and dazzling line of prepared foods than the Silver Palate, but the proprietor's truculence precluded him from ever being a press favorite, a circumstance that only got worse in the eighties, when he let loose on the writer Julie Baumgold, the wife of New York's then editor Edward Kosner, for trying to return some item she'd purchased. ("I told her to go fuck herself, 'cause there was nothing wrong with it," Zabar says.) "Eli's a great merchandiser, and his shop was always spectacular, but I don't think he liked us at all," says Lukins. "I think he thought we copied him -- and we didn't. I mean, we were one tiny corner of his shop! But we got the publicity and the good reviews." Within a year of its opening, the Silver Palate was selling its own product line at Saks Fifth Avenue, including such items as winter fruit compote, Damson plums in brandy, and blueberry vinegar. Four years later, The Silver Palate Cookbook was published by Workman and became the cookbook of the eighties, not just in Manhattan but throughout the United States. More disciplined and earthbound than The Moosewood Cookbook, yet less intimidating and grown-up than the two volumes of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Lukins and Rosso's book was perfect for have-it-all, multitasking baby boomers who wanted to cook well but not all the time. Its introduction recalled the state of affairs that led the two ladies to their decision to open their shop: a new era in which women found themselves juggling "school schedules, business appointments, political activities, art projects, sculpting classes, movie going, exercising, theater, chamber music concerts, tennis, squash, weekends in the country or at the beach, friends, family, fund raisers, books to read, [and] shopping," and yet were still compelled "to prepare creative, well-balanced meals and the occasional dinner party at home." The Silver Palate lifestyle offered two solutions: you could use Lukins and Rosso's recipes, or buy their products and prepared foods. The very emergence of the word "lifestyle" in the late seventies signaled a progression in America's food culture. Stylish living wasn't just for wealthy boulevardiers anymore, but for anyone who considered himself upwardly mobile -- and eating, cooking, and food-shopping were about as lifestylish as things got. In 1976, when The New York Times expanded from two to four sections a day, introducing a new daily business section and a rotating fourth section devoted to soft news and service journalism, the first two "fourth sections" to appear were Weekend (on Fridays) and the Living section (on Wednesdays), both of which had a heavy food component. The Weekend section carried the restaurant-review column, which ran longer and held greater weight than it had when Claiborne introduced the column in the early sixties. Whereas Claiborne's early columns were often roundups, devoting just a blurb or a short paragraph to each restaurant, the new version evaluated no more than two restaurants at a time, with much more intimate, first-person critiques by the Times' new reviewer, Mimi Sheraton. The Living section was even more gastronomically inclined, with shopping news and product evaluations from Florence Fabricant; a wine column by Frank Prial (a metro-desk reporter who happened to be an oenophile); health and nutrition news from Jane Brody; recipes, essays, and travelogues from Claiborne; and a new column by Pierre Franey, bylined at last, called "60-Minute Gourmet." Arthur Gelb, who was put in charge of the new culture sections by the paper's executive editor, Abe Rosenthal, had wanted to appeal to time-strapped upwardly mobile home cooks by running a column called "30-Minute Gourmet"; Gelb and his wife, Barbara, had been impressed by Franey's ability to whip up quick, simple, delicious meals in the Hamptons -- flounder in a butter sauce, say, or pork chops with capers -- after a long day of fishing. But Franey was still too much of a purist to limit himself to thirty minutes. (Like a lot of chefs, he was also made queasy by the word "gourmet" and preferred the title "60-Minute Chef," but he yielded to Gelb on that matter.) The first "60-Minute Gourmet" column featured a recipe for crevettes "margarita" -- an invention of Franey's that called for shrimp to be cooked in a sauce of tequila, shallots, and cream, with avocado slices tossed in at the end -- and began with a statement of intent (written by Claiborne) that declared, "With inventiveness and a little planning, there is no reason why a working wife, a bachelor, or a husband who likes to cook cannot prepare an elegant meal in under an hour." Surviving The Coming Great Tribulation - Apostle Series - Chapter Two

By Rascal Miles This "Surviving The Coming Great Tribulation - Apostle Series" of ezine articles will be posted on my websites for easy access also - or you can access them at EzineArticles.com by entering the author name Rascal Miles. In brief, these articles will not - each one - talk of this apostle's belief that those who wish to survive the 1st half of 'The Great Tribulation' need to earn enough money 'Now' to be able to 'Move Fast' when The Holy Spirit says 'GO!' Toward that end, banners and links to 'Honest', and 'Established' MLM 'Free Sign-Up Trials' are on the author's websites Jesus4You.ws and MilesBooks.com. Chapter Two After over 20 years of prayer and study, I believe in a 'Mid-Trib Rapture'. The Apostle, Paul, wrote of this miraculous event in his letter to believers. '(CEV) 1 Thessalonians 4:11 Try your best to live quietly, to mind your own business, and to work hard, just as we taught you to do. 12 Then you will be respected by people who are not followers of the Lord, and you won't have to depend on anyone. 13 My friends, we want you to understand how it will be for those followers who have already died. Then you won't grieve over them and be like people who don't have any hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died. 15 Our Lord Jesus told us that when he comes, we won't go up to meet him ahead of his followers who have already died. 16 With a loud command and with the shout of the chief angel and a blast of God's trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven. Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life. 17 Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever. 18 Encourage each other with these words.' Many respected ministries teach of a 'Pre-Trib Rapture.' At first, I bought into that school of thought. Hal Lindsey did an excellent job of establishing the validity of Jesus Christ in his bestseller, "The Late, Great Planet Earth." As Hal presented a good case for a 'Pre-Tribulation Rapture' - which spared Christians of having to endure any of the for-told '7-years of Tribulation' - I liked that position very much. I have since come to believe that we will have to endure the first 3 and a half years before Jesus returns for His 'Bride Of Christ,' the church. So what can we do to protect ourselves - and our loved ones - from the powers that be during the 1st half of Tribulation? Yes, as through-out God's believers history, there will be martyrs. Yet, I feel that a great many of God's elect can buy their time - 42 months - until Our Lord returns to 'Rapture' those remaining. Scriptures promise: '(CEV) Matthew 24:13 But if you keep on being faithful right to the end, you will be saved.' '(CEV) Mark 13:13 Everyone will hate you because of me. But if you keep on being faithful right to the end, you will be saved.' ' (CEV) Romans 11:13 I am now speaking to you Gentiles, and as long as I am an apostle to you, I will take pride in my work. 14 I hope in this way to make some of my own people jealous enough to be saved. 15 When Israel rejected God, the rest of the people in the world were able to turn to him. So when God makes friends with Israel, it will be like bringing the dead back to life. 16 If part of a batch of dough is made holy by being offered to God, then all of the dough is holy. If the roots of a tree are holy, the rest of the tree is holy too. 17 You Gentiles are like branches of a wild olive tree that were made to be part of a cultivated olive tree. You have taken the place of some branches that were cut away from it. And because of this, you enjoy the blessings that come from being part of that cultivated tree. 18 But don't think you are better than the branches that were cut away. Just remember that you are not supporting the roots of that tree. Its roots are supporting you. 19 Maybe you think those branches were cut away, so that you could be put in their place. 20 That's true enough. But they were cut away because they did not have faith, and you are where you are because you do have faith. So don't be proud, but be afraid. 21 If God cut away those natural branches, couldn't he do the same to you? 22 Now you see both how kind and how hard God can be. He was hard on those who fell, but he was kind to you. And he will keep on being kind to you, if you keep on trusting in his kindness. Otherwise, you will be cut away too. 23 If those other branches will start having faith, they will be made a part of that tree again. God has the power to put them back. 24 After all, it wasn't natural for branches to be cut from a wild olive tree and to be made part of a cultivated olive tree. So it is much more likely that God will join the natural branches back to the cultivated olive tree. 25 My friends, I don't want you Gentiles to be too proud of yourselves. So I will explain the mystery of what has happened to the people of Israel. Some of them have become stubborn, and they will stay like that until the complete number of you Gentiles has come in. 26 In this way all of Israel will be saved, as the Scriptures say, "From Zion someone will come to rescue us. Then Jacob's descendants will stop being evil. 27 This is what the Lord has promised to do when he forgives their sins." 28 The people of Israel are treated as God's enemies, so that the good news can come to you Gentiles. But they are still the chosen ones, and God loves them because of their famous ancestors. 29 God doesn't take back the gifts he has given or forget about the people he has chosen. 30 At one time you Gentiles rejected God. But now Israel has rejected God, and you have been shown mercy. 31 And because of the mercy shown to you, they will also be shown mercy. 32 All people have disobeyed God, and that's why he treats them as prisoners. But he does this, so that he can have mercy on all of them. 33 Who can measure the wealth and wisdom and knowledge of God? Who can understand his decisions or explain what he does? 34 "Has anyone known the thoughts of the Lord or given him advice? 35 Has anyone loaned something to the Lord that must be repaid?" 36 Everything comes from the Lord. All things were made because of him and will return to him. Praise the Lord forever! Amen. The following three scriptures are so very important to mankind - and to this article - that I feel I should present them in four of the most respected Biblical translations. Scripture # 1 (Involves 'The Great Tribulation'): '(NKJV) Matthew 24:21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.' '(NASB) Matthew 24:21 "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.' ' (KJV) Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.' '(CEV) Matthew 24:21 This will be the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again.' Scripture # 2 ( Involves "The Antichrist'): '(NKJV) 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for [that Day will not come] unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,' '(NASB) 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,' '(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;' '(CEV) 2 Thessalonians 2:3 But don't be fooled! People will rebel against God. Then before the Lord returns, the wicked one who is doomed to be destroyed will appear.' Scripture # 3 (Involves Commerce and 'The Mark Of The Beast'): '(NASB) Revelation 13:17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.'(KJV) Revelation 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.' '(KJV) Revelation 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.' '(CEV) Revelation 13:17 they all had to have this mark, or else they could not buy or sell anything. This mark stood for the name of the beast and for the number of its name.' I feel that the stage is set for the greatest drama that has been played out on Earth since Jesus was born here, taught here, healed people here, allowed Himself to be crucified here, was raised from death by His Father here, and - before ascending to heaven - gave us who are alive here 'The Great Commission,' (KJV) Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.' As His servants that are still here, we should be continuing to carry out Our Lord and Master's orders. Jesus didn't say, "Go get yourself killed for me." Jesus did say,'(KJV) Matthew 18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.' While we are alive, we can tell others,'(KJV) John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' During the 1st half of 'The Great Tribulation', many will perish. Yet others will be saved by those who testify and witness as to the goodness of Our Lord and Him having provided them with a deliverance vessel, as God had provided for Noah and his family. I believe that for many - who have ears to hear - the sound of an invitation to earn the means by which to position themselves and their loved ones securely away from the cities - where most of the chaos and the dissident collections might - occur will have a pleasant ring. I am suggesting that smart Christians - and others who will be targeted - make lots of money fast! The same Precious Savior that "Cured" me of "Incurable" MS (Multiple Sclerosis) provided me with a "Financial Deliverance Vessel" to sail to some remote destination - the directions involving where - God will provide at the proper time. We cannot all go the the same place. He has prepared places for each of His elect to weather the coming storm. Our cleft in the rock, if you will? The Four Aspects of Intimacy

By Teddy Shabba Intimacy is a combination of four aspects of a person; the physical, emotional, intellectual, and the spiritual. Most relationships will fall into one or two of these intimate aspects. Physical Intimacy Physical intimacy s the easiest one to be involved in, it usually begins with a handshake or a hug. In general the more attracted you are to someone the more touching that will occur. Emotional Intimacy We tend to guard ourselves from getting emotionally attached to people too quickly therefore it usually takes more time to develop emotional intimacy with someone. This is when we begin to share our opinions, feelings, fears, and dreams. Intellectual Intimacy Just like emotional intimacy, it takes longer to establish than physical intimacy. However, it does so because intellectual intimacy requires a number of different experiences. Conversations based on different types of cultural and political events that allow you to reveal your own personal philosophy of life; is the most common way to create intellectual intimacy. Spiritual Intimacy Spiritual intimacy is the rarest and most challenging form of intimacy. Spiritual intimacy has little to do with religious beliefs as couples with identical and different religious beliefs can achieve spiritual intimacy. Spiritual intimacy is a respect for each other that turns into each person doing everything in their power to make the other person the best version of him/herself. To understand intimacy we must move beyond physical intimacy and begin to know all four aspects of intimacy. To know someone in all four or even in more than one intimate level makes each level of intimate knowledge that much better. 5 Strategies For Comparing Cellular Plans And Offers

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Matt_Dunphy]Matt Dunphy How should you be comparing cellular plans and offers?
There is a wide range of products available, many different
types of calling plans and there seems to always be
something new and exciting to consider. No matter if this
is your first or your tenth cell phone, you still need to
wisely compare cellular plans and offers before you sign on
the dotted line. Here are some things you need to consider
before making the choice. * Know your need first. If you currently have a cellular
plan, find out about how many minutes you are averaging per
month. You can usually find this on your statement. Also,
note things that you do and do not like about your plan.
For example, do you get billed for roaming charges? Do you
pay more for day time calls? * Get the information. When comparing cellular plans and
offers, you need to begin gathering information that will
help you to make a decision. The best way to do this is to
use the web. Find out what plans and offers are available
from each of the companies in your area. Take notes, get
brochures or even get quotes. * Youll want to compare several things. Start with the
plans minute allotment. What is the cost of the minutes
that you are averaging use of now? What additional fees are
there for going over? Are there additional charges for the
phone? Can you keep your current one? What are the charges
for text messaging, voice mail, internet browsing and
pictures? Does the phone they offer with the plan provide
you with what you need? * Look at warranty information. If your phone is damaged,
destroyed or stops working, what will they do for you? * Lastly, make sure that when you are comparing cellular
plans and offers that you know just how long of a term you
are signing for. If it is too long, unfair or there are
extraordinary costs to getting out of the contract really
consider your choice here. Comparing cellular plans and offers means taking the time to
insure that you know the facts, know the deal and know the
hidden costs and then making the right decision. Matt G. Dunphy is a contributing writer at [http://www.gadgetagent.com/]GadgetAgent.com where you can find

Wedding Tips - The Perfect Wedding Cake

By L.K. Reid Selecting the perfect wedding cake is important and exciting. This is one of the wedding tasks that you will be able to have fun with. After all, its your wedding and when you are searching for the perfect wedding cake, you can choose anything that you want to have. Most of the weddings have a theme or special color to them. This theme can be incorporated into the wedding cake. The cake should fall into the theme and become one of the most important focal points of the day. Why Give Wedding Favors?

By Nikki Carroll To give or not to give? This is the question on every couples mind when potentially choosing wedding favors. Unfortunately, there is really no easy answer to this question. Youre not exactly obligated to give a memento to your party guest, but most have come expect one. If youre like most affianced couples, you are on a tight budget. Dont fret. There are many ways to give stunning and elegant wedding keepsakes with even the tightest budget. The simple reason behind wedding gifts is to provide a couple with a way to thank their guest for their love and support. They have become common place and are given at the majority of todays weddings, receptions or celbrations. Being on a tight budget is indeed a valid concern, but there are many ways to show appreciation without breaking the bank. Many websites offer quality discount or inexpensive wedding favors. In addition to the bargains, many sites also have a discount club that can give further deductions. After all, most wedding souvenirs are fairly cheap before the unit price is multiplied by the number of guest in attendance. You can get even more taken off the bottom line if you buy in bulk. Many websites offer quantity discounts. Websites like MyLoveWeddingFavors.com actually provide all of these mentioned thrifty services. If the budget is still a problem, consider making your wedding favors or simply have a single rose placed on each place setting. Discuss this with the florist before hand and the price may even be reduced. Wedding favors do not have to be expensive or extravagant to be beautiful and thoughtful. Your guests have given their time to witness your nuptials and one of the most magical and an important day of your life. A gift is simply a token of your affection. Nikki Carroll is a wedding specialist and co-owner of http://www.myloveweddingfavors.com .Visit MyLoveWeddingFavors.com for that perfect wedding reception favor. They have mementos for every ceremony or reception from groomsmen gifts to heart wedding favors. Give your guest a unique keepsake without going over budget. 5 Ways to Give Your Web Site a Big-Company Look and Feel

By Alexandria K. Brown We all DO judge a book by its cover, and the same saying goes for Web sites. Ive seen many entrepreneurs offer great information on their Web pages, but compromise their image dramatically with a few amateur mistakes that can be VERY unforgiving. If you want to attract high quality clients and customers, and convey that youre a legitimate, credible, and sought-after business, these five points are a great launching pad to give your site that big company look and feel. 1. Start with a high-quality LOGO. The one your kid created for you doesnt count! Im talking about paying a designer to do one for you, and it doesnt have to cost in the thousands. If you dont have much of a budget, consider the following options: For my E-zine Queen site, I used an online logo service called 1800MyLogo (http://www.mylogo.com). At the time they charged only $199 to design a professional logo based on my business, style, and personal preferences. The whole process only took about two weeks and was conducted entirely over the Web. (To see the final result, take a quick peek at Ezine Queen (http://www.ezinequeen.com.) Ive also heard good things about GotLogos.com, where you can get a quick Web site logo for only $25! 2. Get your own business DOMAIN NAME. Its just a fact that folks will feel safer shopping at a site with its own domain name. For example, if you were shopping online for a circular saw, would you be more likely to purchase from a hardware site called ...bobshardware.com or the one whose URL is ...geocities.com/3339/bobshardware'? (This is a fictional example, by the way.) Having your own domain name implies youre a real company, and not Uncle Bob working in his kitchen at night (even though you my very well be ; )). There are several places to buy domain names at good prices, but one of my favorites is WebLaunching.net (http://www.weblaunching.net). (Only $12 per year.) 3. Get (and use) a business E-MAIL ADDRESS. Nothing screams amateur like sending out professional e-mail from a handle like fuzzybear4u@hotmail.com. Once you get a domain name for your Web site, have your hosting company set up a professional e-mail *alias* for you. Lets go back to Bob, for example. Suppose Bobs e-mail has always been BobSmith000002@earthlink.net. Now that he has his own domain name, he can instead use bob@bobshardware.com. He still KEEPS his Earthlink address, because thats where hell actually receive his mail. But he should only GIVE OUT the new one on his Web site, business cards, etc. If you use Outlook or a similar e-mail program, you can set it up so that your e-mails ONLY show your e-mail alias and your personal e-mail address. (To do this in Outlook, go under the Tools menu. Then choose Accounts. Then select the account you use, and click Properties. Enter your e-mail alias in both the e-mail and reply address fields.) 4. Get a professional-looking Web site DESIGN. This can mean either hiring a designer to do a custom site for you, OR designing it yourself. Unless youre both trained extensively in HTML and have a background in design, its well worth the money to hire someone. Find prospective designers who work with small businesses, ask to see samples of their work, and be upfront about your budget. If their rates are higher than you can afford, ask them if they have any pre-designed Web site templates they can just insert your information in, cutting down tremendously on design time and cost. Whatever design you choose, make it CONSISTENT on every page of your site, by using the same design elements such as borders, fonts, and colors. If your budget is next to nil and you'd like to choose from a variety of templates that you can customize, check out Ken Evoy's new "Site Build It"! This innovative tool lets you create your own site very easily, and it has some of the most professional-looking templates I've seen. The affordable package (less than $350 USD) also includes hosting, a list service, and more. (http://www.sitesell.com/websellsecrets.html) 5. Tell us WHO YOU ARE and HOW TO REACH YOU. Most of us (and rightfully so) are leery of purchasing online from a company weve never heard of before. To alleviate our fears, put contact information on every page if you can, with a physical mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address. If youre uncomfortable posting your home address, lease a box around the corner and use that address. Avoid using P.O. box in your address if possible, which can appear suspicious. Real companies have real addresses! Also, get a *Toll-free* number if you can it says big company and "customer service." I got mine from my long distance provider, 1Com (http://www.1cominc.com), because they charge no setup fee or monthly fees I only pay for the incoming calls at my usual great long distance rates. Breaking Your Relationship Pattern, Part 4

By Rinatta Paries Finally, after all of the hard work you have done completing your past, here is a way to break your relationship pattern. Relationship choices are often based on patterns created in our childhood. These patterns are automatic and subliminal. We believe ours is the way relationships ought to be. There is no problem having a pattern that leads you to loving, satisfying, long-term relationships. However, many people have patterns that cause them nothing but the heartache of unsuccessful relationships. There is a way out, a way for you to be free of your particular pattern and to be free to make your relationship choices based on what you need and want. The best way is to understand where your relationship pattern comes from. Then you can consciously choose what works for you and what doesn't, what you want to continue and what you want to stop, and how you want your next relationship to be. Below is a powerful exercise. In doing this exercise, you will discover information about your relationships and yourself. Knowledge of yourself is freedom to choose, freedom to act differently, freedom to have what you want. Pattern Tracker Section 1. Instructions: Answer the following question for all of your significant past relationships. Significant means you had or still have strong feelings about the person. Go backwards in your history, starting with the most recent relationship. Write down your answers. What hurtful things did your partner do in your last relationship? What hurtful things did your partner do in the relationship before that? What about the relationship before that? Section 2. Instructions: Answer the following questions and write down your answers. What hurtful things did your parent of the opposite sex do to his/her partner? What hurtful things did your parent of the same sex do to his/her partner? What hurtful things did your parent of the opposite sex do to you? What hurtful things did your parent of the same sex do to you? Section 3. Instructions: You will need to refer to your responses from the previous two sections. To make answering the following questions easier, you may want to copy out those responses. Write down your answers. What are the similarities between the hurtful behaviors of your parents and your past partners? Are the behaviors opposite? Section 4. Instructions: Answer the following questions, writing down your answers. Your parents' relationship with each other and with you is the basis for your relationship pattern. What kinds of pattern were you programmed to have in your intimate relationship? Are you repeating your parents' relationship pattern in your own relationships? Are you reacting to your parents' relationship by doing the opposite of their pattern? Example: (Names and details changed to preserve privacy) When my client Sonya did this exercise, she filled out Section 1 by listing all three of her significant relationship partners as unavailable and uninterested. Her most recent partner, Jeff, lives in New York, while she lives in Boston. He was barely making time for her. They were only seeing each other once a month and even then he would find reasons to be away from her. He was very argumentative and would never be the one to say he was sorry. Her previous partner, Ronald, simply did not want to continue in their relationship. Every time something would go wrong, he would back away a little bit more until there was no longer a relationship. Sonya wrote down that Ronald was unavailable because he was unable to be emotionally close. He was also uninterested -- he did eventually walk away from the relationship. This man was not argumentative, instead avoiding arguments at all cost. Sonya's very first significant partner, Rob, was the love of her life. They loved each other deeply, but even that did not keep them together or prevent him from doing hurtful things. As the relationship progressed he started to withdraw more and more. Eventually he lost interest in her physically. They tried to work it out, but he would shy away from confrontation and nothing ever got resolved. Here is Sonya's Section 1: Jeff was unavailable, uninterested and argumentative. Ronald was unavailable and uninterested, and avoided confrontation. Rob was withdrawn, uninterested, and avoided confrontation. Sonya had to think hard about Section 2. She did not want to blame her parents or make them look bad. But as she thought about their relationship with each other and with her, she began to see some patterns. She remembered her parents arguing often. Her mother felt the father did not care, did not want her, and did not participate in the relationship or the family. Sonya also remembered that her mother was the one who started these arguments and did the yelling, while her father first listened and then walked away. Sonya's father did not spend much time with her, but was a good financial support. When her father eventually left, he did not stay in touch. Her mother told her over and over how all men eventually lose interest and leave. Here is what Sonya wrote for section 2: Father unavailable, uninterested and avoided confrontation. Mother argumentative and blaming. Father not around for me, not wanting me, leaving eventually. Mother told me all men lose interest and leave. When it came to Section 3, Sonya copied out the responses from the previous sections. She came up with the following list: Jeff was unavailable, uninterested and argumentative. Ronald was unavailable and uninterested, and avoided confrontation. Rob was withdrawn, uninterested, and avoided confrontation. Father unavailable, uninterested and avoided confrontation. Mother argumentative and blaming. Father not around for me, not wanting me, leaving eventually. Mother told me all men lose interest and leave. In answering the question, "What are the similarities between the hurtful behaviors of your parents and your past partners?" she noticed many similarities. For example, she noticed that all of the men, with whom she has had a significant relationship, ended up treating her the way her father treated both her and her mother. Sonya also noticed with a gasp that all of her relationships have fulfilled her mother's prophecy. In answering the question, "Are the behaviors opposite?", she noticed that Jeff, her most recent relationship partner, was argumentative. In this way he was the opposite of her father and more like her mother. Here is Sonya's Section 3: Father unavailable to me and mother; I find men who are not available. Father was uninterested in mother and me; I find men who lose interest in me. Father avoided confrontation; two of the three relationships were with men who avoid confrontation. Father left; I attract men who eventually leave. And mother told me they would. A man who is argumentative is the opposite of my father, but just like my mother. Finally, Sonya came to Section 4. What kind of a relationship pattern was she programmed for? The answered seemed obvious: exactly the kind of pattern she has been living out, where the men with whom she's in a relationship become unavailable, lose interest and eventually leave. She is programmed to have relationships that are domed to fail because she is with partners who cannot work through the relationship for fear of confrontation. She had to answer "yes" when asked if she was repeating her parents' relationship pattern in her own relationships. She also had to answer "yes" when asked whether she was doing the opposite of her parents. And she realized that doing the opposite got her the same exact result. Here is Sonya's Section 4: I was programmed to have a relationship pattern where my partner will become unavailable, losing interest in me and eventually leaving. I am exactly repeating the pattern in my parents' relationship. Sometimes I have done the opposite of my parents' relationship, but got exactly the same result. If you do the exercise yourself, I'm certain you'll have some great realizations, perhaps even a sense of relief. You will better understand why you attract and are attracted to certain kinds of partners. You will understand your relationship pattern. And in understanding your pattern, you will be able to break it and break free. Your Relationship Coach,

Organic Food - What Is It

By Jakob Culver J. I. Rodale is a pioneer in the field of organic food, he first gave information about this topic in a magazine called Organic Gardening, in 1942. In that magazine he explained the importance of maintaining soil fertility and stability by putting organic matter -- animal manure or compost -- back into the soil rather than relying on the "inorganic," or synthetic, fertilizers that were then widely seen as the modern way to go. He changed the whole concept by changing the fertilizers, and from them, the farming methods, rather than the food, that were organic, and the concern was primarily with the soil, not with issues like biodiversity or animal welfare. As time passed the meaning of "organic farming" soon parted company from Rodale's original narrow distinction between fertilizers. Varying definitions spun out of control as different associations of "organic farmers" tried to set standards in accordance with their own values. Some wanted to stick with a narrow definition in terms of what you could and could not put on the soil, the crops, or the animals. Others wanted to include an entire way of life, including healthy living, an equitable form of distribution, concern for wildlife, and so on. So when there was so much of difference in the perception of organic food then the organizations of organic farmers around the world organized the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements which settled on this definition: Organic agriculture is an agricultural system that promotes environmentally, socially, and economically sound production of food, fiber, timber, etc. In this system, soil fertility is seen as the key to successful production. Working with the natural properties of plants, animals, and the landscape, organic farmers aim to optimize quality in all aspects of agriculture and the environment. As there were no specific standards defined so it created all the more confusion among the consumers as they were often unsure what the various "organic" labels used by different associations and producers really meant Because of this much of confusion the U.S. Congress in 1990 decided to clear up the confusion by authorizing the Department of Agriculture to establish legally enforceable "USDA Organic" standards and a certification scheme so that the consumers would e ensured that their food really had been produced in accordance with the standards. That led, in 2002, to a set of standards that most people in organic farming considered a reasonable compromise among the various views of what organic farming is all about. So it was then formally announced that the crops must be grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, and most synthetic pesticides and all herbicides are also banned, although biological and botanical methods of control can be used. For maintaining the soil fertility, animal and plant waste (but not sewage sludge, which can contain toxic heavy metals) has to be used, crop rotation, and growing "cover crops" like clover between other crops. (Cover crops are plowed into the soil to restore nitrogen and organic matter.) Animals intended for usage as meats, eggs, or milk must eat organic grains or other organic food and must not be given growth hormones or antibiotics. (Sick or injured animals may be treated with antibiotics, but then their meat, milk, or eggs cannot be sold as organic.) Moe importantly the organically raised animals must have access to the outdoors, including access to pasture for ruminants. Neither plants nor animals can be the product of genetic engineering, and organic food cannot be irradiated. So now using the label "organic" to distinguish one tomato from another doesnt ask for much of the efforts.
